Downtown La Fortuna on foot
No car and no spending. The park, the volcano photo and an unhurried walk through town.
This is the simplest plan and the only one that needs no transport. It works at any time of day; if the volcano is clouded over the walk is still worth it, and you can come back to the park later in case it clears.
Step by step
-
Downtown La Fortuna
Start here. Find the angle with the church and the volcano behind it and, if it is open, step into the church respectfully.
-
Walk the downtown streets. Look up at the trees from the sidewalk; one travel guide notes that looking for sloths in town is free. Do not touch or feed the animals.
-
Downtown La Fortuna
Come back to the park at the end. If the clouds have moved, this is your second chance at the photo.
Before you set out
- Bring an umbrella or rain jacket. It rains almost all year round in the Northern Zone.
- Feeding wildlife is prohibited by law in Costa Rica and carries fines.
