Monteverde
- Via Tilarán: the traditional route, around Lake Arenal. The ICT mini-guide estimates about 3 hours.
- Via El Castillo: in March 2025 a Bailey bridge over the Caño Negro River was announced to connect Route 936, and in May 2026 a report with ICT information said it had opened. According to that report, the corridor cuts about 1 h 30 min off the trip to Monteverde; a local community leader puts the whole trip at under 90 minutes. In 2025 the roads it links were unpaved: ask about their condition before you go.
