Tilarán central park and cathedral

Also known as: Parque Domingo Flaqué Montull · Catedral San Antonio de Padua

Tilarán's central park, built from 1966, opposite the cathedral of San Antonio de Padua. It is the starting point for the walk up to the Parque del Viento lookout.

What you can do for free

  • Relax and watch local lifeRest in the park and watch downtown life.
  • Learn local historyLearn the story of the cathedral, built where a chapel stood in 1910.
  • Traditions and eventsOn 13 June, the feast of San Antonio; in late August, the canton's anniversary.

According to the Tilarán municipality, work on the park began in January 1966, and today it bears the name of Domingo Flaqué Montull. It is where the town celebrates: in 2024 the canton's anniversary was held there from 23 to 25 August.

Opposite stands the cathedral of San Antonio de Padua. In 1910 residents built a small chapel on the very spot the cathedral occupies today, and every 13 June Tilarán honours its patron saint. We found no hours when the church is open to visitors.

From here you can walk up to the Parque del Viento lookout in about 35 minutes.
