Ciudad Quesada Central Park
Also known as: Parque de Ciudad Quesada · Parque de San Carlos
The main square of San Carlos' head town, with a 1953 bandstand, play areas and, from time to time, fairs and free shows. The cathedral stands opposite.

What you can do for free
- Relax and watch local lifeSit in the park and watch downtown life go by.
- Learn local historySee the original 1953 bandstand and benches.
- Traditions and eventsCatch a fair or free show when there is one.
The San Carlos Municipality built the park between 1949 and 1953, according to its historical review, and still looks after it. It keeps its original cement bandstand and benches (San Carlos Digital, 2023), has play areas for children, and the Municipal Police have watched it with cameras since 2024.
It hosts fairs and festivals. From 19 to 25 October 2026, for example, the Teatro Popular Melico Salazar staged free puppet, dance and circus shows at its bandstand. The municipality also decorates it on special dates.
Combine it with the cathedral, opposite, and the municipal market, a few blocks away. Ciudad Quesada is cooler and wetter than La Fortuna: check the weather.
How to get there
By car, about 47 km by road (see the [regional routes](GUIDE:rutas-regionales)). By bus, regulated routes 286 (Transpisa) and 234 (Empresarios Unidos del Norte) link La Fortuna and Ciudad Quesada; fares are in [how to get there](GUIDE:como-llegar).
Permitted access
A public municipal park in the city centre.
What to bring
- A rain poncho or umbrella. Ciudad Quesada is one of the rainiest places in the region.
Precautions
-
Since 23 October 2026, a stretch of Route 141 has been closed indefinitely downtown, about 100 m behind the church, because a culvert collapsed. Look for the detour.
What we don't know yet
- Whether the park closes at night.
- Whether there are public toilets.
